Resource-saving technologies in agriculture

Seminar was held in the capital city of Turkmenistan to discuss issues relevant to agricultural sector, particularly on introduction of resource-saving technologies into the agro-industrial sector of the national economy.  The Seminar was supported by the International Soil Science Expert Mr. Anton Kuznetsov, being organized at the final stage of the joint project: «Strengthening the capacity of business communities for sustainable development», which brought together the BOSFOR Youth Center, which is part of Makhtumkuli Youth Organization of Turkmenistan (YOT) structure, and the British Embassy in Turkmenistan.

The participants of this Seminar-training initiative were comprised of representatives of the Nature Protection Society of Turkmenistan, business representatives, young students, scientists and staff of Scientific Research Institutes, specialists of various agro-industrial structures, international companies and organizations.

A brief overview of Turkmenistan’s natural conditions in the context of agricultural development was given on the background of the main agenda of the Seminar.  At separate sessions, there were issues discussed, related to the field of water regime, landscape and soil characteristics, ecosystem dynamics and desertification.  Particular attention was paid to such aspects as economic efficiency of the industry development, modernization of greenhouses, irrigation systems, traditional irrigation and rain-fed agriculture, organic farming, which is now a new brand in the world market, use of non-traditional sources of water in agriculture (domestic sewage treatment).

Representatives of Israeli company on greenhouse farming, which has been working in Turkmenistan for more than ten years, shared their own, rather successful experience in introduction of advanced technologies in this sphere developed by local experts.  Master class presentation of foreign specialists in the field of drip irrigation was complemented by thematic videos demonstrated on the interactive screen.

This Seminar concluded series of training events organized within the framework of the above-mentioned Project, and therefore it became a discussion platform for a broad exchange of views of its participants.  For example, Mr. Merdan Arazmedov, an employee of the Nature Conservation Society of Turkmenistan, by summing up the results of the joint work, stressed on the importance of such professional meetings and the need for continuing them in the future, and he said such seminars address important issues related to qualitative development of the priority agricultural sector for our country.

The Land Management Specialist of the United Nations Development Program in Turkmenistan, Ms. Gozel Atamuradova, in particular, said: «The entire series of seminars were held at the highest organizational level and allowed on one dialogue platform meet like-minded theorists and practitioners in the field of agriculture.  The project provided an opportunity to exchange successful experiences for entrepreneurs and other professionals involved in the agro-industrial sector, facilitated the development of international cooperation in this area, in particular, through the active interaction with world experts and leading campaigns — leaders in the field of innovative irrigation.  As the result of our joint work, a database of specialists in the field of agriculture has been created, which now, if necessary, can now be sought for quality advice.  Such support, for example, is very important at the initial stage of business development.  As a wish, I would like to continue working in this direction and multiply the potential of professional knowledge» said Ms. Atamuradova.

While summarizing results of the seminar, its participants also noted that they were able to get acquainted with the mechanism of work of modern technologies that are successfully used in world’s agro-industrial practice.  They stressed that even if the project completed its work, having united under its «roof» experts in the field of agriculture, he gave a start to the development of subsequent cooperation.

The seminar emphasized the full attention of the Head of the State His Excellency Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the development of the agrarian sector of the national economy, all conditions for the qualitative development of agriculture have been created, which acts as the main guarantor for food independence of our country

And what is important, many participants agreed that the holding of such events characterizes the Turkmenistan Youth Organization named after Makhtumkuli as an experienced strategist. After all, the organization of various training events promotes the upgrading of skills, mastery of advanced technologies and modern methods, the qualitative enhancement of professional luggage knowledge of young entrepreneurs and professionals, followed by the further prosperity of our country in a new historical era.

Each participant of the whole series of seminars received a gift from their organizers on a copy of the unique monograph «Prospects of Wine Viticulture in the Western Kopetdag of Turkmenistan» published at the end of 2017, addressed to scientists and specialists in viticulture, as well as to teachers and students of universities. The book systematizes the results of long-term studies of soil moisture in dynamics, wintering conditions, peculiarities of growth and development of grapes in rainfed conditions at an altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level, productivity of plantings, and crop conditions (sugar content and acidity). The author of the monograph is Vasily Nosulchak, who has focused more than fifty years on the problems of introducing, preserving and studying the gene pool of grapes. On the account of this well-known in our country and abroad scientist in total about a hundred scientific works and monographs.
